About Me

I am Professor of Philosophy and Neuroscience at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, where I direct the Munich Interactive Intelligence Initiative. I am the former deputy director of the Institute of Philosophy at the University of London School of Advanced Study, where I also hold an associate research position. I have always been interested in the paradoxical ways different kinds of uncertainty combine to lead to more accurate decisions, but also sometimes to more blurred and ambiguous experiences.

Earlier in my research, I studied how this combination worked across the senses - and now increasingly focus on analogous questions but in small group decisions (from perceptual decisions to forecasts and evaluative decisions) as well as between humans and AI.

One characteristic of my research is to combine strong philosophical conceptual grounds with behavioural, computational, and neural methods. I have strong views on the complementarity between these methods, which I am happy to discuss more.

In committee, consulting and non-profit work, I also work to bridge the diverse uncertainties and stakes faced by researchers, citizens and political actors.
